Beaver Earns Eagle Scout Award

— SELINSGROVE — Luke Beaver, son of Matt and Zena Beaver, of Selinsgrove, celebrated earning his Eagle Scout award on Dec. 15, 2013, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kratzerville. He is the grandson of Dorothy Beaver, of Selinsgrove, and the late Roland Beaver, and Pamela Jareski, of Lady Lake, Fla., and the late Charles Jareski.

To earn the highest rank in scouting, Beaver has earned 27 merit badges, served as a leader in his troop and completed a major community service project at his church. Beaver’s Eagle Scout project was sanding, wire brushing and repainting Zion Evangelical’s exterior doors and ADA ramp railing, repainting the basement stage walls, and building a 7-foot high cabinet for Sunday School supply storage.

Beaver organized the entire project, including a fund raising pancake and sausage breakfast at Applebee’s, Hummels Wharf. This project took him months from start to finish with guidance from his father and Clair Kline (cabinet work). After his project was approved by the council office, he met with members of the church’s property committee for their approval. Beaver worked very hard and diligently on his Eagle Scout project.

Beaver began his scouting career at age 5 when he became a Tiger Cub with Pack 3401 in Port Trevorton. He worked his way through his Boy Scout career with Troop 401, Port Trevorton. He is now a member of Troop 441, Kratzerville.  Beaver is 16 and attends Selinsgrove Area High School.  As a sophomore, he is a member of the Selinsgrove cross-country team, high school marching, jazz, chamber music, and concert bands, National Honor Society, Forensics Team, Music Club, Technology Students of America, Spanish Club, high school musicals, Brotherhood of Order of the Arrow, assistant Sunday school teacher, and an honor student. He plans to work his third summer as staff at Camp Karoondinha, Weikert. Beaver hopes to attend the Naval Academy to study law.
