LEWISBURG — The Public Library for Union County is hosting a Summer Reading Party featuring special guest, The Hampstead State Company on Thursday, Aug. 8 at the library.
The fun begins at 1 p.m. with the end-of-summer festivities including worm races (worms are provided) and making mud monsters, as well as other games and activities. At 2 p.m., The Hampstead Stage Company brings to life The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
The Secret Garden, is an enchanting story about a young orphan girl, Mary Lennox, who comes to live with her uncle in the English countryside. Through her curiosity and determination, Mary finds a garden filled with memories, that has been locked for years. Her youth and enthusiasm breathe life into each character she meets, bringing love back into the family.
Celebrating its 30th season, The Hampstead Stage Company, based out of New Hampshire, is an award-winning not-for-profit organization that brings high quality professional theatre to schools, libraries and communities throughout the 48 contiguous states. Its mission is to educate audiences throughout the country by bringing classic literature to life through live theatre, thus sparking an interest in reading the classics, instilling a love and appreciation of the arts, and preserving theatre for future generations.
