BVRA Gears up for Summer Season!

— LEWISBURG — The Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) is in full swing making final touches to this year’s summer activity planning. The season’s activity guide will be available to the public beginning May 23, although many programs are already posted online. The guide is available for pickup at the BVRA office, and in the green boxes in the St. Mary’s Street Park and around town.

To kick off the summer season and in celebration of National Water Safety Month, on Sunday, May 18, the Lewisburg Community Pool will host a Water Safety Day to bring a better awareness of how everyone can have safe fun in the water. The event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. and agencies such as the William Cameron Fire Company and Sunken Treasure Scuba Center will be in attendance for demonstrations. Guests will be able to meet the pool staff for the 2014 summer season and take a sneak peak at the pool. There will be fun water games for the whole family and BVRA will have a prize drawing for a package which will include a voucher for half off a park and pool rental package. The value of this package ranges anywhere from $30 to $200. Prize tickets will be sold at the event. This event is free and open to the public. We do ask that all children be accompanied by an adult. The Lewisburg Community Pool will open to the public for general swim on May 25. Season pool passes are available for purchase online at, or in person at the BVRA office.

Shortly after the pool opens, the BVRA Summer Day Camp will begin. The camp is in its sixth year of welcoming youth ages 5-12 (and 13-14 year-olds as CITs), and will use the newly created children’s play garden, community pool, gymnastics center, community garden and other facilities as part of the camp’s “Go Local” theme. A big effort to better connect kids with their surroundings and promote interactions to foster greater understanding and love for their community and its natural resources is a focus of camp this year. Space is available on a weekly or full summer basis, but is filling up quick. Camp begins on June 5 with full and weekly options available.
