Parent Child Home Program accepting applications for upcoming school year

— MILTON — A program for young children that promotes language, literacy and school success through reading, playing and verbal interaction is accepting applications for the upcoming school year.

The Parent Child Home Program (PCHP) is a family literacy and parenting program available to families living in the Milton Area School District. The program runs from September through May for children ages 16 months to three years. Children may participate in the program for two years.

Families enrolled in the program receive two, 30-minute visits each week in their home. Children receive a new book or educational toy to keep, and the home visitor shows parents ways to use the books and toys with their child to ensure school success.

The program is made available at no cost to families through a Keystones to Opportunities (KtO) grant. KtO is a five-year grant that was awarded jointly to Milton Area School District and the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit. The grant aims to improve literacy outcomes for all children, which is tied to Milton Area’s comprehensive literacy plan.

For more information or to apply, call Brenda Miller, PCHP supervisor, at (570) 495-3928.
