Host Families Needed

— NEW PHILADELPHIA — P.E.A.C.E. (The ProAmerican Educational And Cultural Exchange) a U.S. government designated, non-profit, international student exchange program since 1989, needs warm, friendly host families to host 15-18 year-old foreign exchange students arriving in August for the coming academic year. Most are Latin American. A few are from China.

P.E.A.C.E. is a small, closely supervised, family-oriented program, seeking to provide a traditional American home environment for high school children of educated families from Latin America and China. Some are artistically inclined towards theater and drama or playing musical instruments. Others like hunting, fishing and camping. Many are multi-sports athletes. Their average academic grade point average is 86 percent.

P.E.A.C.E. Student Ambassadors to be accepted must meet high standards in academics, communications skills, maturity, intellect, congeniality, and moral character; be non-users of tobacco, alcohol or drugs; and be of the Christian faith or seeking to learn.

P.E.A.C.E. provides airfare, medical insurance, orientations, bi-lingual counseling, and other amenities such as an educational bus trip and an awards banquet. Students bring their own spending money. Host families provide a bed, meals, love, and understanding. Sharing a room with another child is ok. But, you needn’t have children to host a student. Childless couples and grandparents are among the most successful of former host families.

P.E.A.C.E. World Headquarters is located in New Philadelphia. For information about either hosting or being an exchange student visit the website or call (800) 377-2232.
