SUN Area Dairy Promotion Team

— SELINSGROVE — Persons 8-23 years old in Snyder, Union, Northumberland, and Montour counties wanting to join the SUN Area Dairy Princess Promotion Team as a miss, maid, ambassador, alternate princess or dairy princess can contact Ashley Wetzel at (570) 539-8625. Contestants have to own dairy animals, be the child of, or related to a dairy farmer, work on a dairy farm, or just have a interest in dairy.

The princess is required to travel to all the counties at different events and promote the dairy industry during the year. They are also required to present a skit and speech at the SUN Area and State Dairy Princess Pageant and attend a three day seminar July 9-11 at Elizabethtown College. The alternate princess is required to present a skit and speech at the SUN Area Dairy Princess Pageant and either attend the seminar with the princess or mini seminar with the dairy misses, maids, and ambassadors. Dairy misses, maids, ambassadors, and alternate princess are to help the princess at different events and cover for her when she is not available. Boys can also join but can only be ambassadors.

SUN Area Ag Dairy Days will take place May 16-18 at the Middlecreek Valley Antique Show along Old Colony Road in Selinsgrove, beside the Snyder County Prison. There will be kids games starting at 4 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Friday night will feature a celebrity milking contest at 6:30 p.m. The SUN Area Dairy Princess Pageant begins at 7 p.m. Saturday and the free ice cream sundae will be featured at 1 p.m. Sunday. Parking and admission are free.
