MILTON — Lifting Little Lives is hosting their Winter fundraiser Saturday, which raises money for the nonprofit dedicated to brightening the lives of kids struggling with illnesses in the Valley.
The Winter fundraiser begins at 5 p.m. at the Blue Spruce, along Route 405 in Milton. The event will include music, food and prizes, said Bruce Heim, the organization’s vice president.
The group hopes to raise about $2,000 at the event and is also planning a larger fundraiser for May, Heim said.
The group serves all four Valley counties as well as Columbia County and does anything from buying a family little things to help with therapy to sending kids on special trips, Heim said.
“This past year, we sent one of our kids to Las Vegas to a behind-the-scenes monster truck show,” Heim said. “He got to sit in ‘Grave Digger.’”
But not every gift from the group is as spectacular. The group also does thing like buy iPads for kids loaded with apps to help with their therapy or communication, Heim said.
“A lot of times these families are financially strapped,” he said.
Lifting Little Lives is completely run by volunteers, all of whom are just trying to spread love around the Valley, Heim said.
“We all have kids and we just know that if somebody’s struggling we want to reach a hand out and help,” he said. “Our complete focus is on those kids.”
It’s a sentiment Heim knows well, he said.
“I’m blessed with two beautiful, healthy daughters and grandchildren and I just know that out there somebody could use a little more help,” he said.
