BU sponsors visual art portfolio review and juried exhibit for area high school students

— BLOOMSBURG — Faculty from the art and art history department at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will review visual art portfolios from high school juniors and seniors on May 3, to select participants for an exhibit in BU’s Haas Gallery, the location chosen after a fire occurred at the Moose Exchange in downtown Bloomsburg. Three students will also be selected for tuition scholarship awards.

According to Jason Godeke, associate professor of art and art history, students planning to major in art studio at BU are eligible for the awards of $1,500, $1,000 and $500. The tuition scholarships are specific to those students, but the portfolio review is open to any high school junior or senior who enjoys making art.

The scholarship recipients and five additional honorable mention candidates will receive $50 gift certificates for the University Store.

This portfolio review and tuition scholarship program is possible thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, who was inspired by First Columbia Bank’s Teen Star Competition.

The juried exhibition will run from May 14-31 in BU’s Haas Gallery. A reception and awards ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Students interested in participating in the BU art department portfolio review, juried show and scholarship competition should pre-register by April 30. To learn more about the scholarship program and application guidelines, contact Godeke at jgodeke@bloomu.edu or (570) 389-4187.
