MILTON - Bruce Smith will go from interim president of the Central PA Chamber of Commerce to the permanent head of the group following a national search.
Smith, also the Chamber's membership & marketing director, was approved unanimously by the board of directors this morning and he will begin serving as permanent president Jan. 1, according to a press release by the Chamber.
"I look forward to leading this Chamber with renewed energy and direction,"
Smith said in the release. "I am passionate about this organization, the members and communities it serves."
Smith became interim president in the wake of the resignation of Maria Culp, who left the chamber after seven years at the helm.
According to his biography on the chamber's website, Smith joined the staff in 2007. He previously had worked for several local companies, including Weis Markets, the former American Home Foods and the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Smith is a graduate of Shikellamy High School, SUN Area Vocational-Technical School and Susquehanna University.
