MIDDLEBURG — The PA EconChallenge Online! Challenge, hosted by EconomicsPennsylvanaia, was recently conducted in two competitive divisions: David Ricardo, focused on real life economic applications and Adam Smith, focused on theoretical aspects of economics. The Challenge involves teams of three or four students competing in their knowledge of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international economics.

The Online! Challenge engaged 21 teams in the David Ricardo Division and 17n teams in the Adam Smith Division.  The top four teams in each division advanced to the onsite State competition held in Harrisburg. The program is locally sponsored by The Northumberland National Bank.

Four Midd-West teams, under the leadership of Chris Snyder, placed first, second, third, and fourth in the David Ricardo. The students that placed first were Kurt Eisele, Logan Harmon, Brenee Kratzer, and Katie Kreider. These teams have won the honor of moving to the PA State Final Competition. Other local schools advancing to the state competition from the local onsite competition(s) are teams from Bald Eagle, Montoursville, and Lewisburg high schools.

First place winner at the State level then will represent Pennsylvania in the Regional National Semi Finals. The winners of the semi-finals will advance to the National Finals in New York City in May.
