LEWISBURG — Join the Merrill Linn Conservancy on Feb. 1, beginning at 1 p.m., for an afternoon of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at the Dale/Engle/Walker (D/E/W) property in Buffalo Township. This free event is suitable for beginners and will include a brief lesson for those interested. Snowshoes will be provided courtesy of R.B. Winter State Park’s Environmental Education Center. Skiers must bring their own equipment.
Participants, led by Conservancy coordinator Geoff Goodenow, will explore the gently sloping fields and trails of the historic 137-acre property. The approximately two-hour outing will conclude with a fire, hot chocolate and the opportunity to socialize with Linn Conservancy and Buffalo Creek Watershed Alliance (BCWA) board members.
Participants are asked to register for the event no later than Jan. 29, by calling (570) 524-8666 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with “snowshoe/ski” in the subject line. Please indicate the number in your party and if you will need snowshoes. The event will be limited to 20 participants, so let us know if you have to cancel your reservation. If there is a lack of snow, a guided hike will be offered.
The group will meet in the parking lot adjacent to the D/E/W House at the end of the lane. The property — the site of Dale’s Ridge Trail — is located at 1471 Strawbridge Road off Route 192, 1.7 miles west of Lewisburg.
The Merrill Linn Conservancy is a nonprofit volunteer organization that works to preserve and protect significant ecological sites in Union, upper Northumberland and contiguous counties and to educate the public on conservation issues critical to the health of our environment.
