CAMP HILL — Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) has announced that Janette Lesher, of Northumberland County is joining its board of directors after being elected the new chair of the state Young Farmer and Rancher (YF&R) Committee.
Lesher and her husband Tim operate a dairy operation in Northumberland County in partnership with her father-in-law. Although she helps out on the dairy farm by taking care of the breeding records and other duties, she works full-time for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as a soil conservationist. The Leshers have three young children, ages 4, 2 and six-months old.
Janette and Tim have been on the YF&R Committee for five years and she says it’s been exciting to see the changes over the years.
“My overall goal is to encourage young farmers to become more active at the county Farm Bureau level and to generate more interest among our young farmers to participate in our yearly YF&R contests,” said Janette Lesher. “We have good folks out there and we need to break down some barriers to get them more involved.”
Lesher replaces Lehigh County farmer Michael Fink, who served as YF&R Chair and a member of the state board of directors over the past two years.
“I’m looking forward to working with the board and young farmers across the state. As young farmers we need to be more engaged because there is so much at stake for our future,” concluded Lesher.
