Local Students Receive Scholarships

The Daily Item

— SELINSGROVE — Two first-year students at Susquehanna University have received scholarships established by Christopher Kenawell, a State Farm agent in Selinsgrove.

The annual awards, offered in partnership with Susquehanna University, are The Charles R. Kenawell, Good Neighbor Award from Selinsgrove Area High School and The Charles R. Kenawell, Good Neighbor Award from Midd-West High School. These scholarships support an incoming Susquehanna student from each high school with demonstrated financial need. If no student meets the criteria for one of the awards, a current Susquehanna student who graduated from the specified high schools may be offered the scholarships.

Recipient Jorden Bailey, of Beavertown, is majoring in communications with an emphasis in broadcasting. She is a graduate of Midd-West High School and the daughter of Steven and Katrina Erb.

Recipient Patrick Charvat, of Shamokin Dam, is majoring in accounting. He is a graduate of Selinsgrove High School and the son of Thomas and Louise Charvat.

These awards are reflections of Kenawell’s commitment to helping local students realize their potential and his belief in higher education as preparation for lives of achievement, leadership and service. The scholarships are given in honor of his father, Charles R. Kenawell.
