SELINSGROVE — Ann Morrison, an active and life-long member of Christ Episcopal Church in Williamsport, a registered nurse who also teaches nursing, will partner with All Saints Episcopal church in Selinsgrove, in her goal of continuing her discernment to ordained ministry, and the church’s goal of growth and continuing outreach in the community.
Morrison is the youngest of six children. She has been in “discernment” — the spiritual and practical process leading to ordination to the Diaconate — for several years. In the Episcopal Church the ministry of a deacon is primarily in the community as a servant to those in need, the disadvantaged, the poor and the sick. In the church, a deacon is to encourage and support the members in reaching out into the greater community to those in need. In worship a deacon proclaims the gospel, leads the confession, sets the altar for Holy Eucharist and pronounces the dismissal.
Morrison will meet with the congregation and hear their concerns and hopes for her ministry. She chose to work with All Saints because it was different from her home church. For now, she wants to encourage the members of the parish to reach out to the community.
Morrison will be officially welcomed at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13.
