Tree Seedling Orders Being Accepted

— LEWISBURG — The Union County Conservation District is taking orders for tree seedlings for your spring planting. The following varieties are available: Douglas Fir, Concolor Fir, Pin Oak, Red Oak, Sugar Maple, Black Walnut and Forsythia.

Prices for the Evergreens, Douglas Fir and Concolor Fir, are $13 per bundle of 25 seedlings. The Deciduous trees are $10 per bundle of 10 seedlings.  

Douglas Fir and Concolor Fir trees are often used as Christmas trees or as windbreaks. Concolor Fir is known for its distinct citrus aroma. Pin and Red oak acorns are excellent sources of food for wildlife. Red Maple trees are excellent shade trees and also produce sap that can be turned into maple syrup. Black Walnut trees grow extremely tall and produce highly valuable lumber. Forsythia is generally considered a shrub and produce vibrant yellow flowers in the spring.

Orders will be accepted until April 4. Seedlings will be available for pickup April 9 and 10. For more information call (570) 524-3860 or stop at the District Office on North 15th Street, Lewisburg.
