LEWISBURG — The Buffalo Valley United Methodist Church, 954 Johnson Mill Road, Lewisburg, will host a fall fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The fair will be a day for the whole family with children’s games, food and musical entertainment, a bake sale and silent auction. The fair resurrects a long standing tradition in the community served by the former elementary school. For many years, the Buffalo Crossroads HSA (Home-School Association) would hold a school fair which always featured games for the children, food and an auction. This event always drew a large crowd from the community to raise money for the HSA’s activities.
When the school closed at the end of the 2012 school year, it looked like the end of that tradition. Then, the Buffalo Valley United Methodist Charge, four small United Methodist churches, came together to form the Buffalo Valley United Methodist Church and purchased the elementary building in January. Since then, the people of the church have been hard at work, renovating the space into a place of worship and ministry. Many people from the congregation attended or had children attend Buffalo Crossroads Elementary and have fond memories of the school. It was decided to revive the tradition of the school fair by having a fall fair at the church.
The community is invited to see the renovations done to the building so far; enjoy some food and listen to music by a local group, the Melody Makers. A silent auction will also be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Funds raised from the fair will be used to support the ministries of the church. For more information, call (570) 966-1653.
