Late Season Cornstalk Nitrate Testing Service Available For Snyder County Farms

— MIDDLEBURG — The Snyder County Conservation District is offering a late season cornstalk nitrate testing service to Snyder County corn farmers. A Conservation District technician comes and collects cornstalk samples. The farmer supplies crop history and manure application information. The samples are mailed to Penn State for analysis.

Samples should be taken when the corn kernel is between “one-quarter milk line” to three weeks after it produces a “black layer.”

Corn growers pay $12 per test kit plus postage.

Contact the Snyder County Conservation District office at 10541 Route 522, Middleburg, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., phone, (570) 837-3000, webpage, www.snyderconservation.org.
