Bucknell President John Bravman to stay through 2020

— LEWISBURG — Bucknell University Board of Trustees Chair Ken Freeman has announced that President John Bravman has agreed to an extension of his contract through 2020.

“In a relatively short period, John has asserted his leadership with all of Bucknell’s constituent audiences in an exceptional manner,” said Freeman, a 1972 Bucknell alumnus. “We are excited about the opportunity his continued leadership presents to serve and support the extraordinary talents of our faculty and staff and help all of us live up to the high expectations of our students, alumni and parents.”

In announcing the news, Freeman cited the rapid progress Bravman has made on such matters as the half-a-billion-dollar WE DO Campaign, which had its public launch in October and has now passed the $280 million mark in gifts and pledges; the development of Academic West; and new plans for student housing that will open in fall 2015.

He also cited Bravman’s leadership in establishing the Campus Climate Task Force, which has fostered important discussions on improving the student experience at Bucknell; and his decision to investigate and then publicly announce the SAT reporting errors the University discovered, and the subsequent $10 million anonymous gift that came as a result of, at least in part, how Bravman handled the situation.

Bravman, whose original contract was five years, said, “I am grateful to the board for its confidence, and honored to have the opportunity to serve this University and to get to know the people that make it special even better. Wendy and I already consider Bucknell home and look forward to many more years of being part of this incredible Bucknell community.”
