LEWISBURG — The inaugural exhibit in the new art gallery at the Public Library for Union County will feature the photography of Brienna Flewelling.
The exhibit at the library opens today, and an artist’s reception is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. The library exhibit continues through July 31.
Brienna, a freshman at the Milton Area High School and the daughter of Colleen and Ken Flewelling of New Columbia, placed first in the General Federation of Women’s Club’s Junior Women’s Club of Milton Annual Arts Contest, first place in the 108th Legislative District Art Show and second place at the state level of competition.
“I love expressing myself through art” said Brienna. “Having my artwork in a gallery is a wonderful opportunity to show the public my work, gain exposure and grow through my craft. It is an inspiriation knowing people will see my work and I hope that such an experience will open new pathways in my future.”
Along with photography, Brienna also enjoys writing and aspires to become a photojournalist.
Throughout the fall and winter, the library’s lobby underwent significant renovations to create the new art gallery space. The project was funded through a grant from the Edna M. Sheary Trust.
“The art gallery is an ideal place to offer library users a glimpse of the range of artists and media in our area, said Roberta Greene, library director.
Artists and organizations are encouraged to apply to exhibit items of artistic, cultural and intellectual interest. For more information, visit online at: www.publibuc.com/about/displays.
