NEW BERLIN — A two day Summer Solstice Celebration will be held June 21 and 22 at the Integral Yoga Center in New Berlin. The festivities begin on Friday evening at 7 p.m. with a three hour musical experience featuring performances by the Nick Miller Project, Logan Weaver and Becca Lehman, and Lawson and Disorder.
From 10 p.m. to midnight the IYCPA will host an open mic poetry reading, a ceremonial solstice bonfire, and drum and chant circle. In celebration of the life of the Center’s founder, Sudharman, participants will join voices at midnight in a round of his favorite song, Row, Row, Row Your Boat. The celebration continues Saturday, June 22 at 9 a.m. with a special yoga session led by Vani, the Center’s Hatha II instructor. In honor of the life giving powers of the sun, the class will be devoted to a flowing series of sun salutations and will end with a special Sudharman Yoga Nidra session recorded on CD. As a fundraiser, members and friends of the Center will collect pledges for each of the salutations they complete. Folks in the community can support the Center by joining IYCPA members by participating in the salutation class or by visiting the website and donating your pledge to Vani, who has set her personal goal at 108 salutations.
A planting of the Garden of Light and a vegetarian potluck picnic along Penns Creek will follow the yoga session from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Three workshops will be held during the afternoon hours. Angela Miele Kaiser will lead a Celebration of Light Crystal Singing Bowl Healing Session from 1 to 2:30 p.m. followed by Self Reflexology with Emilia Torraca Beale from 2:30 to 5 p.m. The Celebration will come to a close with the Divine Light Chanting and Meditation held 5 to 6 p.m. led by Kai and Rod Bower from the Williamsport area.
