College to Offer Development Program for Young Athletes

— WILLIAMSPORT — This summer, Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer a four-week Youth Training for Athletic Development program.

Taught by members of the college’s physical fitness specialist faculty, the program will emphasize sport-specific training, fundamentals of proper technique, injury prevention and nutrition education, as well as functional and resistance training.

The program runs Monday through Thursday, June 23 to July 17, with a session for 12- to 14-year-olds from 9-11 a.m. and a session for 15- to 17-year-olds from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Each participant will receive an individualized training program upon completion of the sessions.

The program is administered by John M. Arrigone, adjunct instructor of fitness and lifetime sports, and Judy Quinti, assistant professor of fitness and lifetime sports/physical fitness, both experienced resistance- and sports-training instructors.

The format is specific to youth training based on National Strength and Conditioning Association guidelines. Penn College’s Associate of Applied Science in physical fitness specialist is the only associate degree in Pennsylvania recognized by NCSA.
