LEWISBURG — High school and university students who are in the Lewisburg area over the summer months are asked to consider volunteering two hours of their time to serve the needy in our community by carrying bags of food at the Eastern Union County Food Bank. The food bank, located at the First Baptist Church at the corner of South Third and St. Louis streets, usually has a group of volunteer students from Bucknell University to assist with this activity. However, since those students have returned to their homes over the summer, there is a need for more local volunteers for the food distribution over the summer months. All residents who are able to carry 10 pounds and negotiate steps are welcome to help. The dates of the food distribution are as follows: June 21, July 5, July 19, Aug. 2, and Aug. 16. Volunteers are needed for each of those dates between the hours of 1:15 and 3:30 p.m. This would be a good opportunity for students who are home from respective colleges and universities and others to meet one another as they serve others.
Individuals who are interested in participating in any or all of the food distributions or for more information regarding this volunteer activity are asked to contact Dick Ellis at (570) 524-4740 or email email@example.com.
