MIFFLINBURG — Camp Mount Luther is gearing up for their summer camping season for 2013 and is accepting registrations for all programs until they are filled. The camp is celebrating its 50th birthday this year with several special events. Campers who register before April 1st will receive a discount on their camp fee.
This year’s camping season will begin on June 16, with Senior High X-Teen, a joint program of the camp and the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania. The theme this year for X-Teen is “Beyond the Hunger Games.” Campers will participate in service work during the weekend of this ten-day experience. A week of Day Camp will be held starting June 24, and then resident camps will fill July until Aug. 9. Theme weeks include Super Night Owl, Scooby Doo, and the new Christmas in July. A new camp being offered this year is High Adventure Quest, when campers will live on an island in the Susquehanna River, learn about kayaking, and do the high ropes course at Bloomsburg University. Other returning programs include SURE (Surviving Using the Resources of the Environment); Building Youth Groups; Campfirmation; Pedal, Pack, and Paddle; Intern; and BASIC (Brothers and Sisters in Christ), another joint camping week with the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania for elementary and middle school-aged children. There are programs for all ages from kindergarten to senior high, adults, and families. Most sessions run for one week, but there are also half-week and day only sessions. For more information on this summer’s programs, call the camp office at 922-1587 or visit the camp’s website at http://www.campmountluther.org.
This year’s theme at Mount Luther is “Faith Alive,” exploring the five faith practices of Bible study, worship, prayer, hospitality, and service. A new method of studying the Bible, called “GROW Time” will help campers Gather and Reflect On the Word throughout their day, culminating in an evening worship service. Campers also get to do crafts, go swimming, play games, camp out, and sing during their time at Mount Luther.
The camp will celebrate the 50th birthday with an open house, meal, and worship service on June 30, the 50th anniversary of the camp’s dedication day. During the worship service, the camp’s first director, Rev. Theodore Schneider, will preach.
