The West End Fair has Bicentennial Booths for the 1813-2013 Union County Celebration

— LAURELTON — From Sunday to Saturday, Aug. 4-10, the Union County West End Fair includes several booths with a bicentennial flavor, offered for the public’s enjoyment by the Fair Committee, the Union County Bicentennial Committee, and the Union County Historical Society.

The Union County Fair Committee will host a memorabilia booth of fair photos throughout the years reflecting change as well as tradition.

The Union County Bicentennial Committee will have many very special items for sale: commemorative mugs, soap by Mifflinburg resident Jessica Grill, especially turned wooden rolling pins and potato mashers by Union Countian Pete Wertman, and a Laurelton inspired tin berry bucket by Scott Baylor, to name a few items offered.

The third booth with specialty items is headed by Lois Huffines of the Union County Historical Society. She will have all four books of the Society’s recent series, researched and written in anticipation of the Bicentennial including the fourth and final volume that is just out on New Berlin and the Buffalo Valley. The Society’s book on the Water-powered Gristmills of Union County is also close to coming out, and in October a DVD of a home-grown movie on Mifflinburg and the West End in 1937. See and hear what the county’s historical society has for history buffs.

There are still many varied activities planned throughout Union County from now until late November 2013. To learn more about all of them visit
