Students receive new Nabi 2 tablets

SELINSGROVE — Students in Mrs. Garinger’s and Mrs. Apfelbaum’s reading classes at Selinsgrove Elementary School now have a new piece of technology to use during class. Thanks to some donors through the website DonorsChoose.org, Garinger and Apfelbaum, reading specialists in the Selinsgrove Area School District, each received a Nabi 2 tablet to use with their students. The Nabi 2 is a hand-held PC tablet that is made for kids. The touchscreen tablet has many applications that align with the current educational standards. The applications are educational as well as fun.

Students in their reading classes have been excited to use these new Nabi tablets. Using these tablets allows students to improve their reading skills in a fun and motivating way. According to Garinger and Apfelbaum, it’s as if the students don’t even realize they are learning. To them, they are playing on the Nabi and having fun.

Earlier this school year, Garinger and Apfelbaum posted their project on the DonorsChoose website. It is a website on which teachers can post projects and donors can choose to donate money. Their projects were fully funded by donors, so the students and teachers extend a great big thank you to the wonderful donors who helped fund these Nabi tablets.
