HARRISBURG — On March 12, students from the Selinsgrove FFA Chapter were given the opportunity to meet with Senator Gordner and Rep. Keller to speak with them about agriculture and the FFA, at the 2013 State Legislative Leadership Conference breakfast.
The State Legislative Leadership Conference is a three day event where FFA members get to see how a bill becomes a law. Members are divided into the House and Senate, and debate bills that are currently passing through Pennsylvania’s legislature. They work together to finalize ideas that they believe best represent the ideas of the organization.
Members also have the opportunity to volunteer at 22 different locations around the Harrisburg area, and help inspire change in the community. The Pennsylvania FFA is very focused on community service, as delegates at the state convention have asked that a community service component be included at all state level conferences and conventions.
This conference comes to a close at the legislative breakfast held in Harrisburg, where Pennsylvania’s legislators come to meet with FFA members from across the Commonwealth. Also in attendance were Governor Tom Corbett, Secretary of Agriculture George Greig, and Secretary of Education Ron Tomalis.
Pennsylvania FFA’s partners include Ag Choice Farm Credit, Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit, and Columbia Gas who support this conference. Also, Seneca Resources, Fulton Bank Ag Services, PA Farm Bureau and Penn Ag Industries partnered with the Pennsylvania FFA for this conference for the first time.
