MIFFLINBURG — Members of the Mifflinburg FFA chapter traveled to Springfield, Mass., Sept. 13-15, to compete in the Eastern States Exposition FFA Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event. The event is held during the Eastern States Exposition. The Eastern States Exposition is commonly called the Big E. The states of West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Pennsylvania competed at the Big E. The team consisted of Trevor Clouser, Donald Dehaven, Rebecca Darrup, and Lance Klose.
The team placed fourth and received a plaque for its efforts. The team advanced to the national competition by placing second in state competition this past June at Penn State University during the Pennsylvania FFA State Activities Week. The event balances the problem-solving abilities of each team with individual knowledge and skill performance in systematic areas.
The participants take a written test and demonstrate their skills through hands-on activities in the following system areas: agricultural machinery and equipment; industry and marketing; environmental and natural resources, and structural and energy.
The National FFA Agricultural Mechanics CDE is sponsored by Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. The event is one of 21 Career development events held annually at the Big E.
