Union County Farm Bureau Holds Annual Meeting

— MILLMONT — The Union County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting at Christ’s United Lutheran Church (4 Bells Church), Millmont on Oct. 7. Levere Hook, Union County Farm Bureau president called the meeting to order, leading  a salute to the flag, and introducing Jim Burbaker who gave the invocation. Dinner was served by members of the church.

The business meeting was held with an officers nomination report by chairman Gary Pfeegor. Susan Hauck, Sherry Brouse, and Jason Wolfe were elected as new board members. Gary Pfleegor presented a list of resolutions to be considered at the state-wide meeting in November. The following were voted on and approved.

n It is recommended that the state board of directors develop a minimum 5-10 minute agricultural lessons to be used at local fairs and community events for the Mobile Science Ag Lab program

n At the national level, it is recommended that raw milk sales be legal in the United States, after dairy farms are state inspected

n At the state level it is recommended the uniform construction code 403121 be changed to exempt small businesses, which are less than 2,500 square feet or less, and not to exceed an average of 25 vehicle traffic per day   

n At the local level it is recommended only local township residents be allowed to speak at local government meetings, unless qualified as a professional expert

n Also at the local level it is recommended Union County Farm Bureau research the viability of a local agricultural plastic drop-off location

Johanna Rohrer, Region 2 organizational director, gave a brief presentation on regional farm bureau efforts including the 2014 “Face” conference to be held at Bucknell University. “Face” is a program designed to orient high school youth about farm bureau and agriculture in Pennsylvania.

Delegates to the state wide annual farm bureau conference were also selected by the board.  he following will be attending the conference in November — Levere Hook, Jim Burbaker, Guy Temple, Mike Platt, Matt Ulrich, and Harold Fogel.
