LEWISBURG — Pennsylvania German family names were derived from three sources: personal names, occupation, and the place where the individual lived. Local historian Bruce Teeple discusses the origins and meanings of German family names found in the Commonwealth during a program at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Public Library for Union County.
Teeple is a columnist for the Centre County Daily Times and teaches adult education classes through Penn State University. A graduate of Penn State with a degree in history and political science, he served as the curator of the Aaronsburg Historical Society for 19 years. He has published articles on a range of local history topics including historical structures and slavery in Pennsylvania.
