MILTON — Three classrooms at an elementary school in New Columbia recently hosted their families and teachers for an annual Thanksgiving feast.
Nineteen students from two Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit’s (CSIU) special education classrooms, along with students from a Milton Area special education classroom, hosted the feast.
The students created invitations for their families and worked together to make decorations. They also assisted teachers and staff in preparing food for the event.
“We encourage the students to do as much as they can,” said Melinda Temple, a CSIU special education teacher who has planned the annual Thanksgiving feast for the past 10 years.
The event, Temple said, teaches the students valuable social and life skills.
Roger Showers, of Allenwood, whose son Austyn is enrolled in Temple’s class, attended the feast for the last two years.
“This is a great way to get everyone together,” he said. “It’s nice to see how the students helped make the event a success.”
