Volunteers at Eastern Union County Food Bank Needed

— LEWISBURG — High school and university students who are in the Lewisburg area over the summer months are needed at the Eastern Union County Food Bank. Volunteers are asked to give two hours of their time to serve the needy in our community by carrying bags of food at the The Food Bank, located at the First Baptist Church at the corner of South Third and St. Louis streets.

Usually, a group of volunteer students from Bucknell University assist with this activity. However, since those students have returned to their homes over the summer, there is a need for more local volunteers for the food distribution over the summer months. All residents who are able to carry 10 pounds and negotiate steps are welcome to help. The remaining dates of the food distribution are as follows: June 20, July 3, July 18, Aug. 1, and Aug. 15. Volunteers are needed for each of those dates between the hours of 1:15 and 3:30 p.m. This would be a good opportunity for students who are home from respective colleges and universities and others to meet one another as they serve others.

Residents are asked to join with these students in participating in this activity. More information regarding this volunteer activity may be received by calling (570) 523-6898.
