SELINSGROVE - Selinsgrove Area School District will continue busing students living in Ridgeview Estates following safety concerns raised by parents and school board members.
Superintendent Chad Cohrs today reversed an earlier decision to stop busing about 14 students living in the development after the district obtained a Safe Routes to School grant which included money for a new sidewalk adjacent to Route 522.
The sidewalk connects the development to the intersection at Routes 522 and 204 and, according to a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation study, provides safe access for students attending the school district.
But several parents notified last month that the addition of the sidewalk would mean their child would no longer be bused to school weren't convinced.
Responding to their complaints and concerns raised by board members, Cohrs decided today to reinstate the bus route.
"When it comes to student safety, it's a non-issue," he said.
