SELINSGROVE - The melodic sound of chimes may soon fill the air in downtown Selinsgrove.
Selinsgrove Projects Inc. is raising money to revive the chimes in the borough’s downtown clock by selling engraved bricks to be installed around the base of the Market Street timekeeper.
Sixty-four bricks have been sold so far at a cost of $100 each.
Enough money has been raised to purchase the chimes, but bricks are still available for sale “if you want to be a part of Selinsgrove history,” said Elaine Herrold, SPI vice president.
No bricks, which will be engraved with the name of a family or business, will be sold once the chimes are installed this spring.
SPI members are still discussing what music will play or how many times a day the chimes will ring.
Order forms for bricks are available at M. Heintzelman Jewlers, 22 E. Walnut St., Selinsgrove. For more information, call Herrold at 374-1966 or Cheri DeSiena at 374-7474.
