Beaver Springs teen injured in police pursuit

— LEWISTOWN — A 16-year-old Beaver Springs boy was transferred to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville on Sunday after an early-morning police chase that ended with him hitting a tree and being thrown through his car’s windshield, authorities said.

According to state police at Lewistown, troopers were advised of an erratic driver fleeing from police in Centre County at 8:03 a.m. The boy was first seen driving on Route 322 in Armagh Township, Mifflin County, by Mifflin County’s regional police.

He immediately fled from police and exited Route 322 onto Route 1005, troopers said. Police deployed stop sticks at the intersection of Routes 1005 and 655, which the boy tried to avoid by swerving. In doing that, he almost lost control of his car and nearly hit a state police vehicle, officers said.

The boy’s vehicle then hit the tree. He was taken to Lewistown Hospital for treatment and then transferred to Geisinger. Police did not release his name because he is a juvenile, so his condition could not be obtained. Information on the owner of the car the boy drove was not released either.

Charges were filed through juvenile court of fleeing or eluding law enforcement, aggravated assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment and numerous traffic violations.

State police were assisted by Mifflin County regional police, Lewistown borough police, Granville Township police, the Reedsville Fire Company and Milroy and Fame EMS.
