Utility crews handle natural gas leak in Selinsgrove

— SELINSGROVE - Utility crews have shut down natural gas in a line reptured by a construction crew working at the site of the new Weis Markets along Routes 522 and 204.

UGI Spokesperson Don Brominski confirmed a contractor struck the line during work at the site about 11:15 a.m.

UGI crews reported to the scene at 11:30 a.m. and shut down the line, affecting about eight customers, Brominski said.

Crews remain at the scene this afternoon, and expect to have the line fixed sometime that day, he said. There is no long-term damage, and no one was in danger, he said.

Traffic along Route 522 was shut down until the natural gas was turned off. By 12:35 p.m., traffic was moving past the site. The existing Weis Markets store, located across Route 522 from the construction site,  remains open.
