— SELINSGROVE — The Market Street Festival Committee is seeking local talent to enter its first Market Street Idol Competition, to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 during the 35th annual festival.

The competition is open to musical acts — group or individuals — of all ages.

“Looking at the popularity of musical talent competition television shows such as ‘American Idol,’ ‘The Voice’ and ‘The X-Factor, the Market Street Festival Committee thought that this area has equally amazing talent, so why not give them a showcase locally?” Joyce Hendricks, entertainment chairwoman for the event, said.

The competition will have three or four local judges. Prizes of $300 for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third will be awarded.

“There are no auditions, but since time allotted for the event is limited to two hours, registrations will be accepted strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. We estimate that we can schedule 15 acts at five minutes per act, with a few minutes between for set-up/tear down if necessary,” she said.

For an entry form, contact Hendricks at artdiva1@ptd.net or (570) 898-5450 or download a form from the Selinsgrove Chamber of Commerce website at http://selinsgrove.net/. Click on the Selinsgrove Market Street Festival link.
