SELINSGROVE — A benefit for Selinsgrove resident Bruce “Jake” Gibbs Jr. who lost a leg after being struck by an uninsured motorist will be held Saturday, July 13.
The “Put a Foot Down” benefit is being organized by friends of the 40-year-old Gibbs who hasn’t been able to work since the Aug. 9, 2011 crash. The motorist who struck him as he drove his Harley near his home had no insurance or registration and has not been held responsible for paying Gibbs’ medical bills.
Since the accident, Gibbs has undergone nearly a dozen surgeries and almost lost his life due to complications that arose because of the injury.
He’s also been denied disability payments, so friends are coming forward to host a benefit for him at the Selingsrove VFW on Route 522.
The daylong, family-friendly event will include a Chinese auction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a pig roast and bake sale.
A karaoke contest hosted by S&M Entertainment 2 will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sucker Punch will perform live from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. There will be an $8 cover charge for the music entertainment.
Donations are welcome and anyone who contributes $25 or more will receive free admission to the live band performance. For more information, call Maddie Dorman at 570-847-5687; Kristina Lloyd at 570-966-0089 or Trish Salter at 570-975-4002.
