SELINSGROVE — The Selinsgrove Hotel won the 13th Annual Hoopie Bar Crawl trophy for the fifth year in a row recently. The Hotel competes against BJ’s Steak & Sea House and Bot’s Tavern for fundraising supremacy. All proceeds benefited Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis, Inc. (PACFI), and this year’s event raised over $3,300 for the organization. About 120 people participated in the event.
Everyone registered at the Moose where each participant paid a $35 fee which entitled them to a unique Hoopie Bar Crawl T-shirt, a wristband for free beer and giveaways, and the rocking sound of Y-106.5’s Chad Evans from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Participants left the Moose and went to Bot’s Tavern from 8 to 9 p.m.; BJ’s from 9 to 10; and the Selinsgrove Hotel from 10 to 11. Everyone returned to the Moose at 11 p.m. to end the evening with the sound of Chad Evans from Y-106.5 radio.
The Hoopie Bar Crawl was begun in memory of Selinsgrove native Sarah Rathfon who died due to cystic fibrosis (CF) in 2000. Her friends and classmates wanted to honor her memory by starting an event that would help families affected by CF and also provide some monies for CF research. This year, due to the February passing of Selinsgrove native Todd Eisenhauer who also had CF, PACFI donated $1,000 to Eisenhauer’s family to help pay funeral expenses. Future Bar Crawls will be in honor/memory of both Rathfon and Eisenhauer.
“We help families in a variety of different ways,” PACFI president Betty Hollenbach said, “and funeral costs can be overwhelming so we’re glad we could help.”
Budweiser (E.H. Kleckner’s) was the major sponsor, and other sponsors included Green Ridge Graphics, Papa John’s, L/B Water Services, Inc., and Hess Family Eye Care.
