Susquehanna University Communications Win Big

— SELINSGROVE — Communications staff at Susquehanna University received six awards in the 2014 CUPPIE Awards Competition, sponsored by CUPRAP: The Association of Communicators in Education. Presented March 13 in Hershey, the awards recognize creative excellence in marketing and communications in education.

The organization’s membership includes nearly 350 communications professionals from 100 educational institutions in Pennsylvania and surrounding states who are dedicated to advancing the understanding of higher education and enhancing the professional development of its members.

Susquehanna Currents was awarded a silver CUPPIE in the print magazine category, recognizing the collaborative work of chief communications officer Angela Burrows, magazine editor Victoria Kidd, creative services manager Amanda Lenig and former graphic designer Steve Semanchik. Kidd also accepted two silver awards in the feature writing category for articles she wrote for the fall 2012 magazine. “Lost & Found: Teen Tragedy Brings New Meaning to Professor’s Memoir,” focused on bullying and “Crossover: Alumni Connections Lead to Unexpected Career Turns” detailed how Susquehanna graduates help current students secure internships and jobs in the commercial magazine industry.

The university also received two gold CUPPIES — for a series of brochures and postcards promoting various academic programs — and a silver award for its student recruitment viewbook.

In addition, Betsy Robertson, director of digital and print communications, received the Don Hale Award for her “exemplary dedication and service” to CUPRAP. She served as chair of the Communications Committee and as a board member for several years. As owner of Robertson Public Relations from 2007 to 2012, she also coordinated the organization’s annual professional development conference, consistently exceeding registration goals.
