— SELINSGROVE -- Northumberland National Bank gave a $70,000 grant to EconomicsPennsylvania to support its classroom programs and work with teachers and students, the financial institution announced Monday.

Chairman, President and CEO. Donald Steele Jr., said the large gift comes from the bank’s participation in the Pennsylvania State Educational Improvement Tax Credit Act opportunity.

“It’s certainly no secret that young people must be encouraged and taught to make reasonable, sound decisions based on prudent judgments and rational thinking” about their money, Steele said. “They must also understand that nearly every personal decision is somehow related to an economic consequence. EconomicsPennsylvania is doing everything possible to help prepare our children.”

The Selinsgrove-based statewide organization is among the largest not-for-profit economic education and financial literacy agency in Pennsylvania, conducting programs for grades K-12 grades.

On hand for the check presentation was former Pittsburgh Steelers great Andy Russell, and state Sen. John Gordner, both members of the EconomicsPennsylvania board of directors.
