SELINSGROVE — The Union Snyder Community Action Agency continues to offer a free parenting program called The Family Nurturing Program. The Family Nurturing Program focuses on parents of children ages 0-5 and uses an approach that encourages families to know what to expect and what not to expect from their children, builds care and compassion, discourages physical punishment and allows families to understand each family member’s role. It also strives to empower independence within each family member.
A new 3-week evening class is being offered Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Union-Snyder Community Action Agency’s Snyder East building in Selinsgrove during the month of October. The dates include Oct. 10, 17, and 24. A light dinner will be provided during the evening program. Parents and children are encouraged to attend the program together and take advantage of this free opportunity. In addition, daytime classes are being held Mondays through Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The Family Nurturing Program is funded by a Pennsylvania Children’s Trust Fund grant. Pennsylvania’s Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) is dedicated to funding community-based programs to address the primary prevention of child abuse and neglect. The CTF operates under the administration of the Children’s Trust Fund Board and is supported by the Department of Public Welfare (DPW), Office of Child Development and Early Learning.
