SELINSGROVE — The Women’s Studies Program at Susquehanna University held a donation drive during the month of September.
SU students, faculty, and staff donated more than 100 rolls of toilet paper and 150 garbage bags for the Women’s Center, Inc., an emergency shelter for battered women and children in Montour and Columbia counties.
Susquehanna University Women’s Studies alumnus Christiana Paradis currently serves as the Education Coordinator for the Women’s Center.
“The SU Women’s Studies Program coordinates donation drives to highlight the fact that gender equality is not possible if the basic needs of women and children are not being met,” said Professor Karol Weaver, director of the of the Susquehanna University Women’s Studies Program.
Since 2011, the Women’s Studies Program has sponsored a donation drive. Two years ago, the program hosted a Panty Raid, which was designed to collect packages of undergarments for clients served by Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition. Last year, the Women’s Center, Inc., asked for donations of laundry detergent and the SU community donated enough detergent to do 400 loads of laundry.
