SELINSGROVE — Reconstruction of the South Front Street boat launch has finally gotten a green light from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
“We’re very happy” said Selinsgrove Borough Council President Brian Farrell.
Bids to reconstruct the boat launch will be sought through the end of the month, said borough Treasurer Sheri Badman.
The borough built the boat launch in 2008 with an $88,000 grant from the state Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, but it was closed to the public less than three years later after it failed to pass inspection and state officials determined it was a safety hazard.
In the aftermath, the DEP issued a notice that repairs to the ramp would not be allowed until the borough obtained permits.
The permits were issued recently and the borough will begin seeking bids for the reconstruction work next week.
