SELINSGROVE — Local fire and police personnel are investigating a shrub fire that caused minor damage to a home at 15 Stauffer Ave. before being extinguished on Sunday.
The fire occurred outside the Groce home, said Chief Dawayne Betzer, of the Dauntless Hook & Ladder Fire Company. He declined to give the first names of the husband and wife who live there. The woman was asleep when the fire started at about 5:10 p.m., but a neighbor got her out of the house. Her husband was not home at the time.
Nobody was injured, Betzer said, although the house’s aluminum siding was damaged. He estimated the loss at $3,000.
It was not known whether the fire was suspicious, said Betzer, a licensed arson investigator. He said the fire department will work with local police on determining the cause.
A neighbor with a garden hose extinguished most of the flames before firefighters arrived, said Assistant Chief Brandon Ulrich.
Other departments who responded included Hummels Wharf, Shamokin Dam, Kreamer, Middleburg, Freeburg and Sunbury. Most of their trucks were returned to quarters after details became available, Ulrich said. The Selinsgrove ambulance also responded.
