Selinsgrove FFA members fare well at convention

SELINSGROVE — On June 11 through 13, Selinsgrove FFA members joined over 1,000 other FFA members from across Pennsylvania at Penn State University. There they competed in Career Development Events (CDEs) during the PA State FFA Convention.

While at the convention, Selinsgrove’s Ag Mechanics Team placed fifth. Members included David Barden and Kevin Schell who both received silver medals, Aaron Mainhart who received a bronze award and Kevin Brubaker who was the first place individual in the state. He was awarded a plaque and will receive a $100 check for his win. The Floriculture Team consisted of Elizabeth Baney who received a bronze award, Erin Beaver, Courtney Kratzer and Hailey Share. The Vet Science Team members were Autumn Swartzlander who earned a silver medal, Jade Hoffman who received bronze, Rilee Lamoreaux, and Rebecca Lauver. In Prepared Public Speaking, Rebecca Lauver participated and earned a gold medal. Kevin Dressler took part in the Interview Contest while Kyle Sassaman participated in the Wildlife Contest. Finally in the AgriScience Fair, Jade Hoffman and Autumn Swartzlander received bronze awards for their research in veterinary science.

The Selinsgrove Chapter scrapbook received gold and placed sixth and the National Chapter Application was given a gold award and will advance to the national competition in Louisville, Ky. this October.

Advisors Valerie Fry and Curtis Swineford served as CDE coaches and helped make it possible for the Selinsgrove FFA go to Penn State.
