14th Annual Hoopie Bar Crawl Benefits PACFI

— SELINSGROVE — Will either Bot’s Tavern or BJ’s Steak & Sea House take home the 14th Annual Hoopie Bar Crawl trophy, or will The Selinsgrove Hotel win the title for the sixth year in a row? The Hotel competes against BJ’s Steak & Sea House and Bot’s Tavern for fundraising supremacy by selling shamrocks for $1 or more and through soliciting businesses or individuals for support. One of the three competitors will raise the most money for Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis, Inc. (PACFI), and the winner takes the trophy for a year.

Registration for the Hoopie Bar Crawl begins Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m. at the Selinsgrove Moose. Each participant pays a $35 fee which entitles them to a unique Hoopie Bar Crawl T-shirt, a wristband for free beer and giveaways, and the rocking sound of Tuxes-N-Tunes featuring DJ Troy Berkheiser of K & S Music from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Participants leave the Moose and go to Bot’s Tavern from 8-9 p.m.; BJ’s from 9-10; and the Selinsgrove Hotel from 10-11. Everyone returns to the Moose to end the evening with the sound of Tuxes-N-Tunes from 11-1. Advance registration and T-shirt sales will be held at the Selinsgrove Hotel on Wednesday, March 19 from 6-7 p.m. and again at Bot’s Café on Thursday, March 20, from 6-7 p.m.

The Hoopie Bar Crawl was begun in memory of Selinsgrove native Sarah Rathfon who died due to cystic fibrosis (CF) in 2000. Her friends and classmates wanted to honor her memory by starting an event that would help families affected by CF and also provide some monies for CF research. Last year, due to the February passing of Selinsgrove native Todd Eisenhauer who also had CF, PACFI decided to dedicate all future Bar Crawls in honor/memory of both Rathfon and Eisenhauer.

Budweiser (E.H. Kleckner’s) is the major sponsor, and other sponsors include Green Ridge Graphics, Papa John’s, L/B Water Services, Inc., and Hess Family Eye Care.

The event always benefits PACFI, an independent, nonprofit, all volunteer 501(c)(3) organization that provides supports and services for families and annually funds some of the best CF research projects in the nation.  More information is available on the organization’s website at
