SU student charged in police pursuit

— SELINSGROVE — A Susquehanna University student nearly struck a police vehicle while leading Selinsgrove officers on a car chase at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Borough police said they started pursuing Cedric Earl Barfield, 19, after they spotted him driving at Orange and Pine streets without his headlights on. Barfield, allegedly driving at a high rate of speed, was attempting to elude the car chasing him when he nearly hit the other police vehicle, officers said.

The chase ended at the intersection of Pine Street and Liberty Alley.

Barfield was charged with fleeing police, a felony in the third degree; driving under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor; and reckless driving, careless driving, turning movements and required signals, traffic control signals, no-passing zone and stop-sign violations, all summary violations.

He was arraigned by District Judge John H. Reed and placed in the Snyder County Jail at 5:30 a.m. His bail was set at $25,000.
