SELINSGROVE — The Susquehanna University Enactus team, in partnership with the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, will sponsor the “Stronger Than the Storm” beach event on the lawn in front of Degenstein Campus Center from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. The event is open to the public.
The beach event will support those who continue to struggle with the effects of Hurricane Sandy, which impacted New Jersey and neighboring states in October 2012. According to the latest reports, many individuals remain affected by the impact of the storm, which caused destruction of homes, $30 billion losses to businesses, deaths of dozens of people, and disruption of lives — the value of which Governor Chris Christie called “almost incalculable.”
To help in the continued recovery, SU Enactus members have planned the “Stronger Than the Storm” beach event to feature “Jersey” food, games, contests and music throughout the afternoon. In addition to games such as “Beach Wheel of Fortune,” “Luau Bean Bag Toss” and “Flamingo Ring Toss,” contests will highlight the event, including the “Beach Potato Sack Dash,” “Luau Limbo,” “Caribbean Water Balloon” and “Dress-Up and/or Talent Show” featuring the contestants’ favorite New Jersey personality (contemporary or historic). Contestants will be requested to make a donation; contest prizes have been donated by local businesses.
All proceeds will benefit the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
