WATSONTOWN — Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Central Susquehanna Valley (BBBS) held its 11th Annual Winter Ball at the Watson Inn, Watsontown, on Jan. 18.The event was made possible through a Premier Sponsorship by Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Danville,
Nearly 90 individuals attended the evening to enjoy the menu prepared by the Watson Inn as well as music and dancing provided by Into the Spin — a classic and contemporary soul, funk, R&B, and rock dance band. The band was sponsored by Nichols Mechanical Services, Inc., Selinsgrove.
Included in the evening were live and silent auctions where guests were able to take home everything from a hall of fame signed baseball to fine jewelry — with all of the bids supporting the work of Big Brothers, Big Sisters. All of the auction items were generously donated by local individuals and businesses that support the work of BBBS.
The event raised over $13,000 throughout thanks to proceeds from ticket sales, monetary donations, and auction dollars raised through exciting bidding encouraged by Clint Rockey of Rockey Auctions, Lewisburg.
BBBS pairs youth ages 6-16 with adults who can mentor them two or more hours a week. Throughout the valley, there are 130 current matches of “Bigs and Littles” with each match taking approximately $900 to support the necessary background checks and follow-up to make sure the matches are successfully enriching the lives of the participants. BBBS’s work spans the counties of the Central Susquehanna Valley including Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Lycoming, and Montour Counties.
The non-profit organization relies solely on charitable donations to continue its work throughout the year.
