SUNBURY — Sunbury police are asking for the public’s help in their investigation of a string of recent burglaries and are asking residents to use outside lighting and make sure doors and windows are locked.
Police Chief Steve Mazzeo said Tuesday that “multiple businesses have been burglarized.”
Mazzeo declined to identify the businesses that have been hit, but added that police have multiple “persons-of-interest.”
In addition to the burglaries, “there have been several attempted break-ins ranging from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m.,” Mazzeo said.
The burglaries began Thursday and have continued this week. The most recent was Monday evening, Mazzeo said.
“If anything unusual is seen near any Sunbury businesses or residences I am asking for residents’ help by calling 911 or (570) 988-4539,” Mazzeo said. “We are looking for any information that will lead to the arrest of those involved.”
Police are looking for descriptions, names, clothing or stolen items.
Mazzeo said the department is contemplating starting a burglary task force.
“We will not stop until we catch those involved,” he said. “We are out patrolling, and we will be continuing to search all leads until we make an arrest.”
Crime prevention protocols are recommended,” Mazzeo said.
Use outside and inside lights, lock all windows and doors and keep private surveillance cameras and alarms on, Mazzeo said.
Any information on the burglaries or person-of-interest can be reported to the Sunbury Police Department at (570) 286-4584, Ext. 108.
